Coach Lee Johnson made two substitutions for the third week in a row compared to last week's strong eleven. Colombian John Montaño, who managed to decorate his first starting place for Lommel SK and Jhon Banguera also came in for Wuytens, who was forced to be substituted in the first half last week. He will get his third starting place for the Groen-Wit.
From kick-off, the expected intensity was immediately visible. La Louvière, which immediately claimed the ball and tried to grab Lommel by the neck. Lommel SK that played well and came out of the pressure a few times. After 7 minutes, the first danger came from Lommel SK, past the industrious Montaño who was able to come face to face with the Hainaut goalkeeper via a diagonal cross, who was able to keep the Colombian from his first goal with a good save. After 15 minutes of football, La Louvière was the dominant team in possession, but the only danger came from Lommel's corner.
We entered the 2nd quarter with a well-filled Sovereign Stadium and with more than a thousand enthusiastic Hainauts from the visitors' stand. On the field, however, it was still waiting for the first goal danger from La Louvière, Lommel SK who were able to absorb everything well from their block. A first half hour with a lot of will and sharpness but a lack of significant chances.
Lommel SK that in the 38th minute, via a good diagonal cross to Santos, was able to create danger again, Santos with a low cross that just couldn't reach Van Duiven. In the 46th minute, Dries Wouters takes the first yellow card of the game, after a fierce but smart mistake. Schoofs again
We go into the 2nd half with the same game picture, many duels and intensity in midfield. In the 51st minute, Lommel was able to threaten again, a free kick that ended up at the 2nd post with Wouters, who shot it wide on the volley. The first fifteen minutes after tea, Lommel can call itself dominant in the game. On the hour the 2nd yellow card of Lommel SK, Amankwah who had to take out a promising counterattack. In the 64th minute, La Louvière came up with the first real danger. A well-played attack along the right, which ends with a placed shot that was cleared off the line by Amankwah. A shock wave through the stadium, resulting in increased intensity on both sides of the field.
Lommel enters the last 20 minutes with 4 new names. Siri, Vetokele, Tewelde and Kebe came in to relieve Oware, Van Duiven, Montaño and Lalic. The nervousness started to creep more and more into the game with fifteen minutes of regular time left. Many mistakes in midfield and some disturbances as a result. In the 78th minute, the time had come, a measured cross from Tewelde ended up with a well-infiltrated Lucas Schoofs who initially kicked it on the goalkeeper but was able to head it in on the rebound! 1-0 for Lommel SK.
Visitors turn it around
Match completely broken open, La Louvière now has to give it their all and 2 minutes later the boards are already in balance. A cross that was badly handled could be kicked in from the 2nd line, 1-1. The Hainauts then came up fiercely with a lot of threat, pushing Lommel back.
A very exciting final phase, Zulte and RWDM keeping each other in balance meant that with a winning goal from La Louvière, they would walk away with the championship. Many crosses from the away team that were well processed time and time again by the strong duo Wouters-Banguera. Pieklak also had to show his best side, with a shot from an incoming attacker.
With 5 minutes of extra time left and a lead for Zulte-Waregem, the Hainauts still had to score to be able to promote directly. They seemed to have understood this when they took the lead in the 92nd minute via Belkheir's volley: 1-2 in favor of the away team. In the last 3 minutes of extra time, there was no more football involved. La Louvière wins and thus promotes directly. Lommel SK could not keep any points at home in their last game, but could look back on a creditable performance.
