Lommel SK made two changes compared to their last league match against Patro Eisden. Henry Oware returned to the starting eleven after a short absence, but the biggest change was in midfield. Leon Lalic received his fifth yellow card against Patro and had to watch from the stands. His replacement? Lucas Schoofs. After months of injury setbacks, the Lommel captain finally wore the Groen-Wit shirt again and immediately reclaimed the captain's armband.
Both teams started cautiously, with little noteworthy action in the opening minutes. However, the first major event was a setback for Lommel SK. In the eighth minute, a cross remained in the box, leading to confusion in the Groen-Wit defense. Nicolas Fontaine completely mishit the ball, but it deflected off Radja Nainggolan and found its way past Matthias Pieklak: 1-0.
Following the goal, the home side sat deeper while LSK took control. Their first chance came from a free kick by Mohamed Salah near the corner flag, which nearly curled directly into the net, but Brent Gabriel managed to tip it onto the crossbar.
Chances at both ends
Lommel SK’s second opportunity also came through Mohamed Salah. Cutting inside brilliantly, his shot was deflected, wrong-footing Gabriel, but the goalkeeper recovered just in time to keep it out. The rebound was also blocked just before Alvaro Santos could finish. At the other end, LSK had a lucky escape when Radja Nainggolan’s shot from a quick counterattack flew just wide.
Ten minutes before halftime, LSK had a golden opportunity to equalize. Surprisingly, Dries Wouters dribbled through the Lokeren defense like a seasoned winger, but his shot struck the post. On the other side, Matthias Pieklak had to intervene after a poor backpass from Joey Pelupessy led to a quick Lokeren counter, but the Lommel goalkeeper stood firm to deny the effort.
Just before halftime, Lommel SK had another chance to score. A superb cross from Alvaro Santos was met by Nicolás Siri, but his header went wide. It wasn’t the final attempt of the half, as Salah had another great opportunity following another precise cross from Santos. However, his shot was straight at the Lokeren goalkeeper. After one minute of added time, referee Ruben Calluy blew for halftime, with the score remaining 1-0.

Tough second half
Lommel SK made no changes at the break, whereas the home side replaced Nicolas Fontaine with Daniel Perez. LSK started strongly, creating an early half-chance. Yvann Titi did well to find space but was slightly nudged, preventing him from getting off a dangerous shot.
While the first half was open and exciting, the second period was much more challenging. Lokeren-Temse sat deep, allowing Lommel to dominate possession, but breaking through their well-organized defense proved difficult.
In an effort to inject fresh energy into the match, head coach Lee Johnson made his first substitutions. John Edwin Montaño and Stijn Wuytens entered the fray, replacing Alvaro Santos and Joey Pelupessy.
The first real chance of the second half came with fifteen minutes remaining. Lommel SK regained possession in midfield, and Salah was set free. Surprisingly, he chose to shoot from a difficult angle, but his effort was off target. Shortly after, Johnson made another substitution, handing Theo Mununga his Lommel SK debut as he replaced Jason van Duiven.
With ten minutes remaining, Lommel SK received a boost when Denis Prychynenko was sent off for a second bookable offense after a lengthy deliberation by the referee. With a numerical advantage, LSK pushed hard for an equalizer.
Following the red card, Lommel SK made their final substitution. Johnson signaled his attacking intent by taking off Henry Oware and introducing striker Igor Vetokele. Lommel had further chances, particularly through Nicolás Siri, but the equalizer never came. Even after five minutes of stoppage time, the scoreboard remained unchanged, and Lommel SK suffered a narrow defeat.
