Lommel SK 0 RFC Liège 2
LSK fails to get a result against RFC Liège Wedstrijd - Verslag 26 jan Lommel SK failed to pick up any points in the first match of 2025. LSK lost 0-2 to RFC Liège in our own Soevereinstadion. Lommel SK, led by interim head coach, Ryan Garry, started the game with several different names compared to the last match played. Yeboah Amankwah and Leon Lalic were in the starting line-up for the first time this season and addition Joey Pelupessy was also allowed to join from the first whistle. He replaced Dermane Karim, who is on loan to KV Kortrijk. On the bench, Sam De Grand returned to the matchday squad after weeks of absence.

On a rather poor pitch, good football was not really possible. RFC Liège was the team that cooped with that the best and that resulted in the opening goal after only 12 minutes. Jeremie Lioka controlled the ball skilfully in the penalty area and finished decisively: 0-1.

LSK's first attempt came from Diego Rosa. The Brazilian tried his luck from the edge of the box, but his shot could be caught by Liege goalkeeper Antoine Lejoly. Then, midway through the first half, there was a chance for Alvaro Santos. The Spaniard controlled the ball cleverly with his chest, but his shot went over the crossbar. It turned out to be the start of a strong LSK phase, which was bruud interrupted by a nasty moment. Lucas Schoofs went deep, but hit his opponent on the heels. Our captain went down, but fell completely wrong in the process and had to leave the pitch by stretcher. Dries Wouters became the new captain and Ryan Garry brought on Djaier Prijor. For the home-grown talent, his first-team debut.

The substitution broke the rhythm of the match and after Schoofs' imprudent moment, it took until just before half-time until something happened again in the Soevereinstadion. The visitors captured the ball on the right side of the penalty area and after a good cross, striker Zakaria Atteri headed the ball behind goalkeeper Nikola Ivezic: 0-2. In the second of four added minutes, RFC Liège even came close to scoring 0-3. However, an excellent save from Ivezic prevented the third Liège goal. Trailing 0-2, LSK sought the dressing room.

Little improvement after the break

LSK started the second half with one substitution. Yeboah Amankwah stayed behind in the dressing room and Jesper Tolinsson came on in his place. The first moment of excitement in the second half was an action by debutant Prijor. The 19-year-old went down on the edge of the penalty area and shouted for a penalty kick. The ref did not want to do so and even gave a yellow card to Prijor for a schwalbe.

The first dangerous moment in front of both goals, again came from the opposition. A splitting pass released RFC Liège's striker in front of Ivezic, but the ball went agonisingly slowly past the Lommel goal. Shortly after this mega-chance, Lommel SK also had a huge opportunity. After a free kick by Diego Rosa, Joey Pelupessy extended the ball well, but the Liège goalkeeper just managed to dig the ball out of the bottom corner.

With fifteen minutes to play, Lommel SK started to play more emphatically towards the enemy goal. It resulted in great chances for both Mohamed Salah and Joey Pelupessy. First Salah whose shot was narrowly turned into a corner, then Joey Pelupessy fired at the goal with a fine volley. The Dutchman's effort went just wide. Novice Prijor also had his chances, but the ball just would not go in.

Lommel SK will play their next home match on Wednesday evening. The catch-up match against Royal Francs Borains is scheduled at the Soeverein Stadium. As always, tickets are available at tickets.lommelsk.be.
