Sam de Grand has left Lommel SK. The club has reached an agreement with AZ Alkmaar over the transfer of the left-back. The 21-year-old Dutchman joined the club in the winter of 2023 and made 81 appearances in green and white. During that time, De Grand scored five goals and provided an impressive 20 assists. The Netherlands U21 international was one of the key players in the team that secured promotion to the Jupiler Pro League last season.
Sporting Director Jeffrey van As commented on De Grand's transfer: "We have been in contact with AZ for quite some time regarding a possible move for Sam. Of course, we would have loved to keep him at the club, but we also understand that this is a fantastic opportunity and the right next step for a talented player like Sam. We are proud to see one of our players earn a move to a top team like AZ and wish him every success in Alkmaar."
"I would like to thank everyone at Lommel for three wonderful years," said Sam de Grand. "This club gave me an opportunity at a young age and helped me develop into the player I am today. I look back on my time at Lommel with great pride, with promotion to the Jupiler Pro League being the absolute highlight. At the same time, I can't wait to start this new chapter in the Netherlands. I hope Lommel SK enjoys a successful season in the Jupiler Pro League, and I would like to wish everyone at the club the very best for the future."
