Mat Sadler is the new Assistant Coach of Lommel SK. The 41-year-old Englishman joins the first-team squad and coaching staff with immediate effect. The former defender enjoyed a distinguished playing career with renowned English clubs such as Birmingham City and Watford before retiring from professional football at Walsall in 2022. It was at Walsall where Sadler also began his coaching career. He went on to manage the club in 158 matches as Head Coach, achieving the clubs highest win record in 25 years and guiding Walsall to a Wembley final for only the 2nd time in its history.
Sporting Director Jeffrey van As commented on Sadler's appointment: "Following Robbie Neilson's departure, we carefully searched for the right replacement. We deliberately took our time because we didn't want to make any rushed decisions. In our opinion, Mat's profile is the best fit for the ambitions we have as a club and for the way we want to shape our coaching staff."
Mat Sadler is delighted to begin his new role: "I'm very pleased to be joining this ambitious club from today. From my conversations with Jeffrey and Lee Johnson, I immediately had a very positive feeling, and it was great to see that the feeling was mutual. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Jupiler Pro League season and to building something special together with my colleagues."
