Lautaro López is the latest addition to Lommel SK. The Argentine midfielder joins Groen-Wit on loan for one season from Montevideo City Torque. Last season, he helped the club from the Uruguayan capital secure promotion to the top tier of football in the South American country. Before moving to Montevideo in 2024, López played in his home country for Vélez Sarsfield and Defensa. At the latter, he made his top-flight debut at the age of 18.
Now, López will get his first opportunity to showcase his talent in a European competition. The Argentine is very much looking forward to it: “Playing in Europe is a dream for every kid in South America. I’ve seen a lot about Lommel SK already, and I’m really excited to become part of this club. The ambitions are very appealing to me, and with the upcoming opening of the new CFA, it feels like the perfect time to come to Lommel!”
“We’ve watched a lot of footage of Lautaro and see real potential in him,” says Sporting Director Jeffrey van As. “Despite his young age, Lautaro has already gained quite a bit of experience at the highest levels in both Argentina and Uruguay. These are physically demanding leagues, and it’s not easy for a young player to make an impact—but he did. That’s why we’re very pleased to add Lautaro to our squad for the coming season. We’re looking forward to seeing him in action on Belgian soil.”
