Johnson brings with him to Lommel extensive experience across both English and Scottish football, having managed 524 matches as a head coach.
Johnson has led several clubs including AFC Sunderland, Bristol City, and Hibernian FC. With the latter, he also took part in European qualification matches, and with Sunderland, he won the EFL Trophy.
Lommel SK Sporting Director, James McCarron, commented: “Lee has had a long career in both England and Scotland. He has worked for major clubs and knows the ins and outs of the game. We are confident that a manager of his calibre is what we need at this moment.
“We are very grateful that Ryan Garry was willing to take on the responsibility as interim head coach on a temporary basis and are pleased to have his consistency as he returns to his prior role as assistant coach. We would also like to thank Kristof Van Hout for stepping up and fulfilling the role of assistant coach with great passion. Kristof will stay with the first team as assistant coach.
Johnson himself is pleased to take on this challenge at Lommel and shared his thoughts: “I am thrilled to be appointed interim head coach of this special club and cannot wait to get started. This is a talented group of players and working alongside our coaching staff, I want to add value to our performances as individuals and as a team.”
