In the search for offensive reinforcements, Lommel SK has ended up with John Edwin Montaño. The 18-year-old Colombian impressed at Independiente Medellín in his homeland in 2024. Lommel SK has been following Montaño for a longer periode and is proud that the transfer has now been completed. Montaño signs in Noord-Limburg untill 2030.
Last year, the right-winger played 14 games in Independiente Medellín's A-team, scoring one goal. Due to his strong performances in Colombia's top division, Montaño has also been part of the Colombia U20 squad. With this team, the 18-year-old will participate in the South American Championship for U20 teams in early 2025.
John Edwin Montaño himself is especially proud that he will soon be able to wear the Green and White shirt: ‘Coming from South America, playing in Europe has always been a dream. The Belgian league is known as a strong competition, but also one in which young players get the chance to develop. Lommel SK's story and ambitions really appealed to me, so I can't wait to play in the Green and White soon!’
Sporting director of Lommel SK, James McCarron is happy to welcome Montaño to Lommel soon: ‘We have been following John for a while and wanted to bring him to Lommel at all costs. We finally succeeded and we are very happy about that. John is exactly the type of player we can use within the current squad. His creativity as an outside player should lift our team to a new level. Unfortunately, we’ll have to miss him for now, but of course we wish him a lot of success at the South American championship!’
Lommel SK wishes John the best of luck at the South American U20 Championship in Venezuela!
