Lommel SK and Stad Lommel open interactive sports field in Park Soeverein Club 27 nov The new interactive sports field in speeltuin Dolfijn has officially been opened. The new artificial turf pitch, which was created through a collaboration with Stad Lommel, is accessible to the entire Lommel community and will also start supporting the club's social projects.

The new sports field is located where the toddlers' playground used to be. The artificial turf pitch is equipped with a special boarding as well as four interactive, state-of-the-art goals. Besides classic games, children of all ages can now have fun with interactive football games, including a maths quiz. In this way, sport and education come together in a playful way.

The new artificial turf pitch was created with the support of Lommel SK. As part of the club's Healthy Goals project, the club plans to actively use the pitch during social projects, including girls' football.

Lommel SK CEO Mattijs Manders commented on the opening: ‘This new artificial grass pitch is a very important step for the development of Park Soeverein and for the entire community of our city. As Lommel SK, we are therefore very proud that we can contribute to this as part of our Healthy Goals project. As a club, we will also make optimal use of the pitch as part of all our social projects, including girls' football.’

Mayor of Lommel, Bob Nijs, also commented on the construction of the pitch: ‘We are very happy that our young people can once again come and “shuffle” around the playground, as they used to do on the paved square next door. The digital and interactive goals provide new forms of play and extra experience. The combination of sport, fun and education lets children exercise and learn in a healthy and playful way.’

Alderman for Sport, Dirk Vanderhoydonks adds: ‘This sports field is a great example of how we are renewing and modernising our playgrounds. With it, we not only provide space for local youth, but also strengthen our cooperation with Lommel SK. The focus on girls' football and interactive forms of play fits perfectly with our vision of making sport accessible and attractive to everyone.’
