Lommel SK proud to launch new foundation 'Lommel in the Community' Men 15 sep Lommel SK is proud to announce the launch of the club’s new foundation 'Lommel in the Community' with the aim of improving the physical and mental health of local young people.

Before launching – and to ensure a return-on-investment – Lommel SK and City Football Group worked with expert researchers in social and education fields, local authorities, City Football Foundation, the Belgian Pro League and the Free University of Brussels. Together, these groups concluded that 'Lommel in the Community' can provide local young people with support in terms of equal opportunities, inclusiveness and mental health care.
In the coming years, the foundation will undertake initiatives that will have a direct impact on improving the health of our young people. For this, the club has written a strategic plan that shows strong ambitions and is being rolled out from now on. For the first time in the history of this club, we will make a structural commitment to community work.

Lommel SK CEO, Mike Green said: "Everyone knows how close to my heart this issue is. I am therefore delighted that after months of hard work, we can officially launch the 'Lommel in the Community' foundation here in Lommel. In addition to the existing 'LSKIDS' project, today we are also launching 'Healthy Goals', as part of 'Lommel in the Community'. This project will have a big impact in our city and region as we create a sustainable community field where children from the neighbourhood can play and have fun in an interactive way. In the coming years, we will use football to create opportunities and make an impact on the lives of all children living in this beautiful city."

Healthy Goals

The 'Healthy Goals' campaign – a collaboration between ‘Lommel in the Community’ foundation and the City of Lommel – will raise funds to construct an interactive and open football pitch in the Lommel playground for girls' football.

All funds raised for 'Healthy Goals' from now until the end of September 2023 by fans and supporters will be matched by the club, euro for euro*.

Public Affairs Director of the Pro League, Stijn van Bever, commented: "Lommel SK shows fine ambitions in terms of their community operation. We have supported the club in the policy-based development of its operation through the drafting of their strategic plan. We are therefore pleased to see that the strategic plan is already directly generating impact for the children in North Limburg. 'Healthy Goals' is therefore a wonderful project, where inclusion, health, grassroots sport and girls' football go hand in hand. We are therefore pleased that the club is integrally investing the support of 8,000 euros it received from the Pro League in this valuable project. In this way, the Pro League also contributes and local, regional, national and international commitment comes together in North Limburg!"

Alderman for Sport of Stad Lommel, Dirk Vanderhoydonks, continued: "Stad Lommel and Lommel SK have been working together for years, but of course we are delighted that we have been able to intensify cooperation behind the scenes to get this project off the ground as well. All Lommel children but also associations, schools and other organisations can enjoy this initiative!"

Anyone wishing to contribute to the project can take part in the auction which includes a signed Kevin De Bruyne shirt. The auction starts today and will run until the end of September. Further, during the Lommel SK home match against Francs Borains on Sunday 24th of September, the club will host initiatives that go towards 'Healthy Goals' fundraising. By the way, our boys will start that match in special equipment, which will also be auctioned after the match.

All information about the project, can be found here.
